As part of its regular “In Memoriam” segment, which featured a recording of Aretha Franklin singing, the Primetime Emmys honored late CNN host Anthony Bourdain.

  • Bourdain appeared first in the montage of prominent members of the television industry who died in the past year, after some short clips of Franklin’s career.
  • Franklin’s formal tribute was last in the montage.
  • What is now the final season of Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” documentary series, which was in the middle of production when he took his own life, is in the middle of airing on CNN.
  • The montage also featured former Sen. John McCain in a move that raised questions with some.
